April 11 Lose Pounds & Save $$$ With Textured Vegetable ProteinTextured vegetable protein, or t.v.p. for short, is an ideal substitute for meat if you want to lose excess pounds while also saving some money on you food bill.
Made for soy, it is easy to use because you just add hot water.
This short YouTube video shows you how to easily prepare it to make veggie burgers or to use in any other recipe which normally takes meat.

Below are text instructions to prepare textured vegetable protein (t.v.p.):
1 cup very hot water (it doesn't have to be boiling)
1 cup t.v.p.
Pour the water slowly over the t.vp. while stirring. Over medium heat, stir the mixture until all visible water disappears. Then place into a heat-resisitant bowl to cool. Add seasonings, bread or cracker crumbs, and any flavorings of your choice. Mix together and then form patties. Cook or grill patties as you normally would for burgers, about 3 minutes on each side if frying or 7 minutes on each side if grilling. Serve with your favorite condiments.

Quote Talking about Tips on proper nutrition for vegetarians Talking about Tips on proper nutrition for vegetariansThis video is really informative: Lauer's nutritional expert does an excellent job in clearly explaining nutritional needs: she makes it clear that people of all ages - including children - can safely become vegetarians but to do so only by making sure nutritional needs are supplied: children who want to go veg need to be supevised by parents and by their doctor. Dr. Fernstrom also makes it clear that going vegetarian isn't just about quitting meat and I agree with her. For additional information on how to ease yourself into eating less meat check out this article. Regardless of whether someone is considering going veg or not, good nutrition that comes from wholesome foods is important for everyone especially children. Too much junk food and fast food has become a regular everyday diet for people so Dr. Fernstrom's advice on taking supplements and insuring adequate protein, vitamins, minerals, etc., applies to everyone not just vegetarians.
